Number Stored as Text
Occasionally when working with Reports, a report exported to Excel will display a warning saying "Number Stored as Text".
This article demonstrates a few easy ways to convert the field from Text into a Number.
Recognizing Number Stored as Text
Microsoft Excel will display a green triangle on fields where it recognizes a number, but sees that it's stored as text instead of as a number (Screenshot):
Converting Text to Number
There are two easy methods to convert the text field to a number.
Convert to Number Feature
In Excel, first highlight the affected cells (screenshot):
Next, select the Yellow Warning Triangle button:
Select "Convert to Number" and Excel will change the text fields into numerical fields. You may notice that the green triangles go away:
Another easy method is to use the Value Formula in Excel.
First, create a new column.
Next, select the top cell and enter the following text:
=VALUE(
Then, click the adjacent cell:
Click Enter to save the changes.
Finally, apply the same value formula to the rest of the column by copying the cell and pasting into the other cells. This copies the formula to the rest of the cells. (Alternately, you can also select the lower right corner of the cell and drag down.)
