Pennsylvania Life Sharing Re-authorization Process

Overview

For Life Sharing services in Pennsylvania, Consumers are typically authorized for two different Services, "Life Sharing with Day" and "Life Sharing without Day." The Service codes will either be W8593 or W8595 and one service will have an "HI" modifier to indicate "without day," meaning the consumer received less than five hours of other services that day.

Re-Authorize Life Sharing

When going through the normal billing process (How To Submit Electronic Billing (Pennsylvania) it is best to use a separate Batch for Life Sharing Services. Once a Batch is created, the "re-authorize Life Sharing" button can be clicked which will process each record and check for other service time on that day to make sure the appropriate Authorization is selected for that date.

If the service date has 5 or more hours of other services, the authorization/service with no modifier is selected.

If the service date has less than 5 hours of other services, the authorization/service with the HI modifier is selected.

This button is enabled by the "Show the "re-authorize Life Sharing" button on the batch management page" privilege.
